Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
EclipseDS is a Nintendo DS emulator for Android, Windows, and iOS, with an optional account that syncs your saves across your devices. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect little.
1. Who we are
EclipseDS ("we", "us") provides the EclipseDS apps and the website at eclipseds.com. For privacy questions, contact support@eclipseds.com.
2. What we collect
Using EclipseDS without an account collects no personal data on our servers. Everything below applies only if you create an account or link a third-party service.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create and secure your account and let you sign in on other devices. |
| Username and, for Google sign-in, your Google display name and profile picture | To show who you are in the app and on your account page. |
| Password (email sign-up only) | Handled and stored only by our authentication provider, Google Firebase. We never see or store your password. |
| Game saves and save states you choose to sync | To back them up and restore them on your other devices. |
| Basic play data: game titles you play, play time, save-state counts, last-played times | To show your library and recent activity on your account page and keep it consistent across devices. |
| Purchase status (e.g. whether you removed ads) | To honor a one-time purchase across all your devices. Payments are handled by the app store or payment processor; we do not receive your card details. |
| Linked-service tokens for RetroAchievements and SteamGridDB, if you add them | Stored so achievements and cover art work in the app and on the website. You add and remove these yourself. |
| Bug reports and "game missing" submissions you send | The text you write, plus your account email, so we can follow up and fix issues. |
We do not collect analytics profiles, location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not receive or store your game files. Your ROMs stay on your device.
3. How we use it
- To provide the account, cross-device save sync, and your account page.
- To honor purchases across platforms.
- To respond to the bug reports and requests you send us.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
4. Service providers and third parties
We use a small number of processors to run the service. They handle data on our behalf under their own terms:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage) hosts accounts, save data, and metadata. See Google's privacy information.
- Google Sign-In, if you choose it, shares your email, name, and profile picture with us. We request only basic profile and email, nothing else.
- App stores and payment processors (Google Play, Apple App Store, and/or a web payment provider) process purchases. We receive only whether the entitlement was granted, not your payment details.
Optional third parties you connect yourself:
- RetroAchievements , if you link it, the app talks to RetroAchievements using the credentials you provide, to show your unlocks. Governed by their privacy policy.
- SteamGridDB , if you add a token, it is used to fetch cover art.
Cover art and fonts are also loaded from third-party sources (GameTDB, Google Fonts) when you view certain pages; those requests include only what any web request includes, such as your IP address.
5. Where data is stored and how long we keep it
Account and save data are stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. We keep your data while your account exists. If you delete your account, your profile, saves, and linked-service tokens are removed. Bug reports may be retained after account deletion in de-identified form so we can track and fix issues.
6. Your choices and rights
- Use without an account. Sign-in is entirely optional; skip it and nothing syncs off your device.
- Turn off auto-backup. When signed in, you can disable automatic save backup in Settings, so nothing uploads unless you choose to.
- Disconnect services. Remove your RetroAchievements or SteamGridDB link at any time from your account.
- Access, correct, or delete. You can view your data on your account page, and request correction or deletion of your account and its data by emailing support@eclipseds.com.
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA and UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA and CPRA), you may have additional rights to access, port, or delete your data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us and we will honor applicable requests. We do not sell personal information.
7. Children
EclipseDS is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access to your account data is restricted to you by per-user security rules. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will change the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice.
